API SQ certified: OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III & OEM SPECIFIC 0W20 LS-FE among the first under the new API SQ standard

OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III & OEM SPECIFIC 0W20 LS-FE engine oils are among the first certified under the new API SQ standard— which supersedes API SP as the leading specification for modern engines. We’ve included all the essential information here, to ensure you’re up to date.

With the introduction of the new API SQ service category, Champion is leading the way by licensing two of its premium engine oils: OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III and OEM SPECIFIC 0W20 LS-FE

New Benchmark for Engine Oil Performance

API SQ, introduced in March 2025 by the American Petroleum Institute (API), supersedes the previous API SP standard and is set to become the industry’s leading performance benchmark. It was developed to meet the evolving needs of modern engines, while also addressing the latest fuel economy and emissions standards.

Where applicable, API SQ also aligns with the ILSAC GF-7 standard, which brings additional stringent requirements for engine oil performance.

Engine oils certified to the API SQ standard offer a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Enhanced protection against Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI)
  • Improved timing chain wear control
  • Compatibility with modern emission systems
  • Greater engine cleanliness
  • Stronger resistance to oxidation and high temperatures
  • Better fuel economy
  • Reduced emissions

These improvements are designed to ensure better engine performance and protection, helping to improve reliability and reduce operational costs.

Champion’s Certified Engine Oils

The first Champion Lubricants engine oils to carry the API SQ certification are:

These two engine oils cover two of the most widely used modern viscosity grades. Each lubricant features a number of official OEM approvals and is compatible with a wide range of manufacturer specifications.
